New York City Wal-Mart Stores plans to cut costs by combining purchasing for several countries, according to a Financial Times report.

The report cited the head of Walmart's U.S. stores, Eduardo Castro-Wright, who has estimated that shifting to direct purchasing could reduce costs by 5% to 15% across the supply chain within five years.
